BACKGROUND & HISTORY: Venice; a truly magical city. Raised from the waters by six noble witch families, Venice has been kept alive for years not only by its tourism but by the witches that live and practise there. Out of the six noble families, none are as powerful or as respected as those who rule the Dorsoduro sestiere; the Satore family.

The only child of Lucia and Francesco, Antonio ‘Tonio’ Satore was the golden child of the Satore family. As the only heir to Francesco’s fortune and spell books, Tonio was loved, adored and very much spoilt by his family. To his family Tonio could literally do no harm; inattentiveness in class was blamed on poor teachers, absences due to Tonio exploring Venice were explained away as illnesses, his quick tempered fights started with other children were always blamed on them (especially if they were from the Satore’s magical rivals.) No matter what Tonio did, he was always praised and often excused.

Despite his parent’s insistence on a good education Tonio never took an interest in school except for in his arts or literature classes. Connecting with his magic, Tonio found at an early age that his abilities lay in the charm work of paper and parchment rather than wands or potions cursed words. Working with his family and the San Marco spell houses, Tonio’s magical abilities were often praised and he was often sought out by the ruling families (all but the Cancherello family) to help work and strengthen their charms and inlay the spells into their houses and foundations.

Tonio grew up spoilt, quick tempered and often got into fights particularly with the neighbouring sestiere, San Polo’s leading family; the Cancherello’s. It was during masquerade though that Tonio’s charmed life began to falter and fail. Celebrating finishing his first degree Tonio, a little drunk and worse for wear, stumbled into Gian Cancherello which was an insult that Gian couldn’t bear. Words exchanged, tempers flared and the pair ended up fighting before Tonio outspelled Gian and threw the boy into the canal waters.

Humiliated, Gian complained to his family and the Cancherello’s took offense to Tonio, believing their Gian’s version of events and cursed the Satore’s golden boy who had hurt and humiliated their Gian so. Tonio’s curse became quickly apparent when each and every spell he created and crafted backfired. Embarassed and shamed, Tonio was sent away to stay with his family in Siren Cove hoping the distance and time might convince the Cancherello’s to remove the curse or for the curses effects to fade with time.


PERSONALITY: Tonio was always the golden child of the Satore household; quick witted, cheeky to the point of impertinence, smart, curious, impulsive and loyal to his family Tonio was always favoured by his family even before they discovered his magical talents. As his talents grew and his reputation for magic so did Tonio’s confidence, praised by his doting relations, Tonio always seemed sure of his magic and of himself. Until the curse that is, now the confident, cocky boy that his family doted on is a pale shade of himself. While he never doubted himself before, now he often doubts his actions and his former impulsiveness has taken on a wary edge.

Tonio’s curious and impulsive nature has often gotten Tonio into trouble; whether it be from asking the wrong question in class, to cutting class altogether to chase some lead on an old form of magic or to getting into fights. Tonio’s new start in Siren Cove is promising but Tonio knows that it won’t be long before his quick temper and impulsivity get him into trouble again.



OPINION OF THE RIVALRY: As a new resident, Tonio at first would not know about the rivalry. However upon learning about the town rivalry, Tonio would laugh about it and consider it a rather pale version of the rivalry between his own family and their neighbouring sestiere rivals the Cancherello family.



LIFESTYLE: A student of art and literature, Tonio is in Siren Cove to continue his studies (and to try and escape his curse). If he is not studying or exploring, often found at the library or at the college, Tonio can usually be found working in his cousin’s Italian family restaurant. While Tonio isn’t trusted to cook, he does wait tables and serves excellent coffee to his cousin’s patrons.

Tonio currently lives with his extended family in Siren Cove, staying in a very small guest house attached to his Uncle Giovanni’s home. Tonio often finds himself expected to babysit his younger cousins or to help with family events, though no one asks him any more to help with the family spell work or in the spell house.

Tonio’s hobbies and interests were all largely magic dependent and since the curse he has tried to develop hobbies outside of his magical abilities but it is hard and he often falls, disastrously, back into old habits. The Satore family have had to replace their guest house roof once or twice when Tonio’s attempts to get around the curse go wrong.



POWERS & ABILITIES: Tonio was a renowned spell tailor from the Satore family. His family taught him how to craft and create new spells and witches would come from all over the world to have a spell created for them by Tonio in particular. Tonio could create intricate written spells that by being simply read could strengthen the heart of men, make a woman seem more beautiful and change the very nature of things. Tonio’s craft was in the written word, in the spell scrolls he wrote and sealed in his family’s spell house. However since Tonio was cursed by Gian Cancherello every spell he writes or charm he casts backfires or goes awry meaning that his magic, once powerful and strong reflects badly on him and his family.
